Hello, my name is Gabriel Beyers. I write novels and short stories in multiple genres. If I had to narrow it down, I’d say that my stories are Thrillers with a Twist. That is, they are about normal people facing extraordinary situations in a world that’s twisted just a bit off center.
I know bios like this are supposed to be written in the third person, but that just feels strange to me, so here I am to tell you a little about myself.
As a child I would often create homemade treasure maps and write stories to go along with them. During my school years I enjoyed creative writing classes, journalism, and Latin. As a teenager I co-authored a local church newspaper.
All the signs were there, and yet I never realized that I wanted to be a writer.
It was several years later while breaking my back working commercial construction that I had an epiphany. I was sitting with my wife, watching a show about a writer, when life’s message finally broke through my thick skull. I slipped away and typed the beginning of a story that had been rolling around in my head for a long time. I decided it was terrible, felt a little foolish, and walked away.
Not too many days later, my wife came across the story sitting on the computer and asked me how it ended. She thought that I had downloaded the first few chapters of a new book and wanted to know who the author was. My wife is a very intelligent and well-read person, so her thinking that my story had come from one of those “professional” writers that I’d envied all my life, well, it forever changed the way I felt about all those stories I’d kept hidden in my mind. After a gentle nudge from my wife, I put aside my fear and self-doubt and returned to the keyboard.
I’ve never looked back.
So here I am, chasing my dreams and hoping to entertain a few readers along the way. I can’t say that I’m exactly where I want to be. I still get up every morning and go to work, while spending my nights pouring the worlds of my mind into whatever pad of paper or computer that I can find.
